Maribel was born and raised in the Midwest, along the Ohio River, but has called Western Washington home since 1998. Since her father was a surgeon, and her mother, a nurse, she grew up in a culture of care about health and for others. Her journey toward becoming an acupuncturist began in art school at Indiana University, where she majored in ceramics. There, she discovered she wanted to work with her hands and began to practice yoga and use herbal medicine. After graduating from IU, she moved out to Seattle, a place she had loved since visiting there as a child. In Seattle she took a job requiring her to learn the principles and techniques of macrobiotic cooking. She was to prepare meals for her boss, who was using the therapeutic diet to support her cancer recovery. This chance encounter with the fundamentals of Yin and Yang put Maribel on the path to study Chinese Medicine.
She graduated from Bastyr University in 2004 with a BS in Herbal Science, and again in 2007 with an MS in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, and has enjoyed practicing in Minneapolis (a stint back in the midwest), Seattle, and Langley. Her areas of interest include pain and stress management, women’s medicine, digestive health, and allergies. She enjoys working with people in all seasons of life, and has a diverse toolkit to help meet each individual’s treatment needs. A lifelong student, Maribel has continued study in the areas of meridian therapy (Tan and Tung styles), herbal medicine, Acutonics (Chinese medicine- based tuning fork therapy), and facial acupuncture. In her free time, she enjoys hiking with her family, gardening, and knitting.
